It is wild that we talking about this but unfortunately, it is the reality of how poor the City Oilers have been this season and we must discuss it.

With 3 games to go, the 10-time champions find themselves in unfamiliar territory with a chance of missing out on the playoffs.

The City Oilers lost 6 of 11 games in the first round and this put them in a very dangerous position.

Despite performing better in the second, they still have work to do and they must make sure to do it perfectly.

As things stand, the City Oilers have an 11-8 record and one could say that they have 1 foot in the playoffs.

However, mathematically, they could still miss out

Here’s how

Scenario 1

City Oilers and JT Jaguars both have an 11-8 record while Victoria Crocs and Rezlife Saints have 9-10 records.

If Victoria and Rezlife win all their remaining 3 games and City Oilers lose all their 3, the Oilers miss the playoffs.

Victoria Crocs and City Oilers face off on Wednesday 16^th and this game will determine the trajectory of both teams regarding the playoffs.

The Oilers know that they must win here in order to erase all doubts all failure to make the playoffs.

On the other side, the Crocs also have to win so as to keep their hopes alive as a loss in this game could end them.

This game will be tough more so for the City Oilers because they will be up a team that has their back against the wall.

If the Oilers lose this game, their situation will become tougher because their next game will be harder.

They take on the Namuwongo Blazers, a side which hates to see them happy. The Blazers will want to inflict as much pain and damage to the ‘dictators’ and if it means making them fail to qualify for the playoffs, that will be like a motivation.

Finally, the Oilers will face the JKL Dolphins, a side which defeated them in the first round.

As you can see, the possibility of the Oilers losing these 3 games is but the most important one is against Victoria Crocs.

If Victoria defeat the City Oilers, their chances of making the playoffs will have improved significantly as they can easily get wins against already relegated KIU Titans and Livingstone.

For Rezlife, they face the KCCA Panthers, Livingstone and JKL Dolphins in their final 3 games.

If they can win all of them, that means they will also make the playoffs.

Scenario 2

If City Oilers win the game against Victoria Crocs, they will have secured their spot in the playoffs.

However, if they lose that game and win either against Namuwongo Blazers or the JKL Dolphins, there is a chance that they can still miss the playoffs.

In this case, Victoria Crocs and Rezlife Saints would have to win all their 3 games and that means that the 3 teams would be tied with a 12-10 record.

If the JT jaguars also lose 2 of their final 3 games, they would also end up with a 12-10 record.

In this case, since more than 2 teams are tied, points difference will be considered.

At this moment in time, the City Oilers lead with 197, JT jaguars with 115, Victoria Crocs with 28 and Rezlife Saints with 22.

This means that Victoria Crocs have to defeat the City Oilers by a very big margin and also pray that the other team they lose to, Namuwongo Blazers or JK Dolphins also do the same to them.

Additionally, in the Oilers’ victory, they would have to win by a small margin.

However, this alone is not enough.

 Rezlife Saints would also have to win by huge margins probably 110+ in order to surpass the City Oilers.

Scenario 3

If the City Oilers lose all their games while Victoria Crocs and Rezlife Saints win at least 2 of their remaining 3, all the 3 teams would be tied on 11-11 and points difference would be used.

However, if this happens, it is highly unlikely that Victoria and Rezlife would surpass the Oilers in points difference.

Scenario 4

If City Oilers lose all their remaining games while Rezlife Saints win all their remaining 3 games and Victoria win 2 of their last 3.

Rezlife would qualify with a 12-10 record while both City Oilers and Victoria would have an 11-11 record and it would be decided on a tie breaker.

In round one, the Oilers won by 4 points and that means that Victoria has to make sure to win by 5 or more in order to own the tie breaker.

As seen from these scenarios, a lot has to happen in order for the City Oilers not to make the playoffs but as the saying goes, never say never, anything can happen.

The game against Victoria Crocs will be the most important one.

If the Oilers win, they can start planning for the post season. If they lose, they should make sure to get a positive result against their arch-enemies, the Namuwongo Blazers.

In case the Oilers lose both to Victoria and Namuwongo while Victoria and Rezlife win their 2 games this week, there will be a lot of panic on the City Oilers camp heading into the final game week.
