The Gazelles are now at full complement and are ready to compete at the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

The event shall be starting on the 25th of July and end on 3rd August, with 12 teams fighting for the Continental Cup.

The Gazelles have been training for close to a month as they begun with a non residential camp at Lugogo before flying to Egypt.

They played 3 friendly games, against Rwanda, Egypt and Cameroon, lost the first 2 and won the last one.

During those games, the team comprised of only 10 players as 3 hadn’t joined them.

Paige Robinson, who made her debut during the qualifiers in Egypt, was the latest addition to the team as she arrived on Tuesday 22nd.

Claire Lamunu arrived a day before  that while Wasswa Mya arrived last week on Friday.

As we speak, the team is in Alexandria where they are having more training to sharpen them for physically and mentally for the tournament.

Uganda is in Pool C, with Senegal and Guinea.

It is important to remember that Uganda defeated both these sides in the 2023 edition in Rwanda and they will be coming for revenge.

The winner of the group automatically qualifies to the quarter-finals.

If the Gazelles finish number 2, they face number 3 in pool D, and if they finish number 3, they face number 2.

Pool D has Nigeria, Rwanda and Mozambique.

Both Mozambique and Rwanda defeated Uganda at the 2023 edition while Nigeria are the defending Champions.

For Uganda, it is imperative that they win their group because facing anyone in Pool D in a playoff won’t come off easy.

The Head Coach, Nicholas Natuhereza has bee  on record multiple times stating that the teams needs to perform better than they did in Kigali.

Uganda failed to go past the quarter-finals in Rwanda against Rwanda but this time around, the girls are ready to jump over that hurdle if/when they get there.

They arrived in Abidjan on Saturday 26th and will be playing their pool games on Sunday and Monday.

The final 12 have yet to be announced but the important thing to note is that only 1 player shall be dropped.
