The Uganda Silverbacks were defeated by Senegal 88-53 in their opening game of the 2025 Afrobasket in Angola.

This was expected to be a tough outing for Uganda and straight from the jump, the Senegalese went to work.

3 minutes into the game, Uganda had already made 4 fouls and they trailed 9-2. The Teranga Lions were using their size to their advantage and the Silverbacks seemed not to have a solution.

It was foul after foul for Uganda in that first period, and Senegal attempted 17 free throws scoring 12 of them.

Jean-Jacques Boissy scored 9 points while Gora Camara had 8 as Senegal outscored Uganda 30-18 to close the quarter.

It was a much better second quarter performance defensively for the Silverbacks as they limited Senegal to just 14 points but their offense was also not as sharp as they scored just 12 to make it 44-30 at the halftime break.

In the third quarter, the Silverbacks offensive struggles continued. The team couldn’t put the ball through the basket.

Layups, shots and everything that Uganda tried just wasn’t working as they scored a meagre 9 points allowing Senegal to take a 21-point lead into the fourth quarter.

The story was the same in the fourth quarter and Ugandans couldn’t wait for the game to end.

To make matters worse for Uganda, Jacksen Moni got an injury and this could affect him in the upcoming games.

Remember, the Silverbacks only have 10 players available and they can’t afford to lose another player.
