The UCU Canons face elimination when they take on Kampala Rockets in game 2 of the quarter-finals.
In game one, it was a dramatic end to the game characterized by missed opportunities and the Rockets won it 50-49.
Coming into this game, the Canons know that their backs are against the wall and that they must secure a victory.
One of the things they must improve on is the field goals conversion.
They only scored 17 of 65 and they must improve significantly if they are to win this game.
Scoring just 5 of 22 from the 3-point line affected them immensely and they will be looking to improve on that.
The same could be said for the Rockets.
Despite winning the game, they scored just 16 field goals and missed 11 of their 22 free throws.
They need to do better in that area and most importantly, they have tk go to the hole.
In this game, the Canons will be looking to Kayiira to carry them offensively and defensively.
If they can feed him on the post, that could free up the shooters but they have to convert.
When the 2 sides met in game one, Lihumi Jimmy started and Alier Pech came on for him off the bench.
Those 2 have to step up and help Kayiira both on offense and defense.
The Kampala Rockets know they have a size advantage and can cause problems in the paint.
Puati Ozias, Mpiya Juf and Christian Ndibu are all gifted physically and they pose a big threat to the Canons interior.
If they can’t score, they can still kick it out to the shooters.
Throughout the game, we could be seeing similar tactics employed by both teams offensively.
This game will be decided on narrow margins.
One, if the big men can score or if the shooters can nail the shots.
The 2 teams face off on Wednesday 10th at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.
This is a must win for the UCU Canons lest they go home.
