In a very close game 2 that was decided on fine margins, the City Oilers defeated Sommet 80-78 in to level the series 1-1.
City Oilers’ new toys, Chad Bowie and Kurt Curry were the star performers for the Oilers and they scored more than half of the team’s total points.
Coming into the fourth quarter, the Oilers trailed by 5 points but they turned the tides in their favour and took the lead shortly.
The Oilers made a 14-0 run to take an 8-point lead with 5:34 left in the game.
Almost all those points came in transition and this was similar to what we saw Sommet do in game 1, in the fourth quarter.
At this point, Sommet needed someone to step up and Kasereka Tembo did exactly that.
He scored 3 huge triples and also set up Opira Markey who buried a corner triple.
After Tembo had tied the game with just over a minute to play, Mer Maker responded on offense.
Sommet played very good defense but Chad Bowie was able to get off shot before the buzzer sounded.
Unfortunately, he missed but with a slight lapse in Sommet defense, Mer Maker picked the offensive rebound and scored what would turn out to be the game winner.
The Coach did not call a timeout and Peter Cheng attempted a difficult three which he missed.
Sommet still had a chance to level or win the game but Opira Markey fumbled the ball on the final fast break and Oilers bagged the win.
At the end of the first half, Sommet led the game 42-39 and both teams were going at each other hard.
Kurt Curry and Chad Bowie were causing a lot of problems for Sommet from shots to drives to the baskets and had 12 and 11 points respectively.
In the third quarter, the Oilers attempted a couple of 3-point shots but were unlucky in the first 5 minutes but they sunk 3 in the final five and kept in the game.
The fourth quarter had drama of its own as the Oilers made a run but Sommet came back though lost the game.
