In the Men’s Division One semi-finals, there hasn’t much surprises as the number one seed, UMU Flames, and number two seed, UPDF Tomahawks, are up 2-0, in their respective series.
UMU Flames defeated the Nkumba Marines 75-68 in game one.
However,they stepped up in the fourth quarter and that helped them get over the line.
At the halftime break, Nkumba led the game 39-33.
In the fourth, UMU, led by Gatwech Kong and Joshua Duallo managed to turn things around.
UMU outscored Nkumba, 27-15, in the fourth quarter with 12 of those points coming off of Nkumba’s turnovers.
Gatwech Kong led in scoring with 25 points and 7 steals. Joshua Duallo contributed 16 points while Malok Marol had 9.
Steven Katabira scored 4 3-point shots and finished with 20 points.
William Dombai (11 pts, 8 reb), Adolf Asiimwe (12 pts) and Arop Mahol (10 pts) also scored double digits.
In game 2, UMU Flames started the game well and managed to secure an easy 71-58 victory.
After the first half, UMU led the game 43-25, and there were in a very comfortable spot.
Nkumba Marines tried to adjust in the second half but the deficit was too big for them to make a comeback.
Gatwech Kong once again came up hugesl with 16 point while Torach Brian scored 14 points in 18 minutes off the bench.
Joshua Duallo registered a double-double, 12 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists.
William Dombaai was limited to just 3 field goal attempts and he scored just 6 points plus 12 rebounds.
Aluma Rukubo and Highman Ssemakul scored 11 points each while Arop Mahol had 8 points and 9 rebounds.
The UPDF Tomahawks won game one 49-42 against Ihoops but there was drama allover.
Late in the fourth quarter, Ihoops led by one point and had a chance to extend their lead.
However, they missed 4 free throws in a row and Isaac Gai Jioka punished them with a triple to give UPDF the lead.
Ihoops once again went to the line but missed the 2 free throws and eventually extended their lead and went on to win.
Issac Gai Jioka led in scoring with 11 points and 6 rebounds while Musiime Collin had 8 points and 6 rebounds.
Rucekeri Salum scored 10 points and 6 rebounds while Edward Komaketch led in scoring with 11 points.
In game 2, UPDF sailed to victory after a dominant 73-52 victory.
Martin Janvier Baraka registered a double-double, 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Amos Mugisha also came up huge with 15 points and 3 rebounds.
Ihoops did not have anyone in double digits but Anthony Gbiatiko and Joshua Agaba each scored 8 points.
Game 3 and 4 will be taking place on Saturday and Sunday but there is a very high likelihood that both these series may not reach game 4.
