The 2023 and 2024 National Basketball League (NBL) MVP, Hope Akello has joined Moroccan side Majd Tanja.
This was made public on Thursday 13th November via the club’s Instagram account.
Akello has been the best player in the Ugandan league for the past couple of years and it is not a surprise that she has made a move of this nature.

It was rumored that multiple teams were interested in her signature including a club in Dubai but that deal never materiaized.
Her statistics over the past 3 years have been mind blowing and there is no doubt that she will have a huge impact in which team or league she joins.
In the 2025 season, she was named the MVP of the Playoffs.
She scored the most points, picked the most rebounds, was top 5 in assists and steals and had, by far, the most efficiency.
Akello averaged 15.3 points, 12 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.2 steals in the season.
In 2024, she was named the MVP and led her side to the Championship.
She averaged 11.9 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.5 steals.
During the 2024 season, she was named the MVP, again, and led her team to a championship.
She averaged 12.4 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists.

As the years have gone by, she has continuously improved her skill set as well as leadership.
In 2025, she was named as co-captain of the Senior Ladies National team, the Gazelles, and her leadership has been seen on and off the court.
Hope Akello has become the second player to join a Moroccan side as an (MVP) in the NBL the season before.
She joins Rose Akon who led the UCU Lady Canons to a championship in the 2022 season after making a 3-0 comeback to win 4-3 in the finals.
Hopefully Hope Akello’s career can be catapulted after this move.
