Sommet registered their second win of the season after edging the UMU Flames 87-80 but it did not come easy.
Sommet led by as many as 19 points in the third quarter but with less than 3 minutes to play, the UMU Flames were trailing by just 1 point.
Coming into game, Sommet had registered a 9-point victory against the JKL Dolphins in their opening game of the season.
On the other hand, the UMU Flames had fallen to the UCU Canons in their season opener and looked to secure a first victory.
However, their start to the game is not what they wanted to see.
They made it very 3asy for Sommet to score and as a result, they trailed 23-15 after the first period.
In the second, they managed to steady their steady their ship defensively and they trailed 39-30 at the halftime break.
The game went a notch higher offensively for both teams has they combined for 45 points in the third quarter.
Sommet was very efficient and they scored 10 of their 17 field goal attempts and a whopping 25 points.
Gatwech Kong scored 10 of UMU’s 20 points in the quarter while Brian Torach made 2 triples.
Ahead of the final period, UMU trailed 64-50 and needed to make a huge comeback.
For Sommet, they were comfortable and knew that they had one hand on the victory.
The Flames started the fourth quarter very well. They scored 14 points from 8 of their first 10 possessions in the quarter and cut the deficit to 5 points.
With under 3 minutes to play, Erjok Agot made a steal and the basket to make it a 1-point game.
However, Sommet was still calm and collected and managed to secure the Win.
Emilagba Abolaji hit a huge 3-point shot at the end while Joseph Chuma came up clutch. He had 6 points in the final 3 minutes of the game.
