Makerere Sparks started their 2026 FUBA Division One Season on a high as they registered back-to-back wins.

The 2025 Bronze medalists are on a mission to qualify for the 2027 NBL and showed what they are capable of straight away.

In their season opener, they defeated Lady Icons 71-32. This was a big win for the Sparks not just in terms of winning margin but that they got to score 70+ points in agame after very many years.

Despite their success in 2025, the Sparks’ highest score was 68 points and one of their goals was to hit the 70 point mark.

Unfortunately, that did not happen in 2025 but happened in the first game of 2026.

That was a big confidence booster and a sign of what could be for them.

The 2025 Defensive player of the year, Mercy Ageno led on scoring with 16 points on 7 of 8 from the field.

Denize Nabugasha (11), Afua Nabawanga (12) and Faridah Nakyanzi (11) also scored double digits.

In the following game, Makerere Sparks managed to defeat the Nkumba Lady Marines 53-34.

The first half ended 29-28 but the Lady Marines were limited to just 6 points in the entire second half.

Mercy Ageno registered the first double-double of the season for the Sparks with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Afua Nabawanga led the scoring with 11 points while Mercy Purity Lamara led in rebounds with 13.
