The KCCA Leopards closed their first round in fine form with six consecutive wins. Their final round one games came against Angels on Saturday 28th and the KIU Rangers on Sunday 29th and they won both games 78-48 and 72-51 respectively.
Against Angels, the Leopards fielded only 7 players and 4 of them finished in double digits. Tracy Namugosa led the scoring with 26 points while Rebecca Susan Aanyu (17 pts,14 reb) and Martha Soigi (11 pts, 10 reb) each registered a double-double.
The following day against the KIU Rangers, the opponents put up a fight in the first half but it was a dominant 44-26 second half performance for the Leopards.
Uwineza Ninette led the scoring with 16 points and 9 rebounds while Margaret Bagaala (11), Martha Soigi (12) and Tracy Namugosa (11) all had double digit scores.
The most surprising thing is the fact that Ines Kanyamuneza and Sharon Kirabo were limited to a combined 15 points and 5/32 shooting from the field.
Having finished their 11 first round games, the KCCA Leopards have a 9-2 record. They are projected to finish either as the number 2 or number 3 seed after the first round.
The Leopards first round has been good with the exception of the 2 defeats. What was disappointing was not the defeat but the manner in which the team lost. KCCA scored just 28 points against the JT Lady Jaguars and 34 points against the UCU Lady Canons.
For a team that is seen as a contender, that was atrocious to say the least. However, they managed to recover and win 6 consecutive games. The other thing to be excited about is the fact that the KCCA defeated the defending champions and this will bring confidence to them.
Top Performers
Tracy Namugosa has been the most lethal offensive player this season. She leads the league with 227 points (20.7 ppg). She is also one of the leading players in steals averaging 3.3 steals per game. Namugosa has scored 20+ points in 8 of the 11 games and is the only player to score 30+ points in multiple games this season.

Rebecca Susan Aanyu has been the second top performer for the Leopards. She averages 11.5 points and 8.9 rebounds. She has registered 3 double-doubles, the most in the KCCA team.
Uwineza Ninette missed the first 2 games of the season but the Leopards managed to secure big wins. She has closed the first round on a high and the Leopards will be hoping that the second round starts soon. In her first 4 games, she scored a total of 13 points. However, in each of the last 5, she scored 12+ points. She averaged 14.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists.

Margaret Bagaala has also been a top performer for the Leopards. She missed just one game but she averaged 7.8 points, 8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.3 steals.
The KCCA Leopards haven’t had a full team present all season long. One of the players that can’t wait to have is Becky Longom who has been undergoing rehabilitation.
The Leopards have a lot of potential (regards to winning the championship) but may need some more people. At the moment, the squad is thin and in case of an injury, they may not have a plan B.
All eyes will be on the KCCA Leopards as we wait to see which players will join them during the mid-season transfer window.
