Makerere Sparks maintained their winning streak after edging Seeta High 56-40 on Sunday 29th March at Hamz Stadium.

This was expected to be an interesting fixture because the last time the two teams had met, the high school side defeated the university side 65-49. With the form that the Sparks are in, they wanted to right the wrongs from their previous encounter against Seeta.

To start the game, Makerere employed a full court press and forced Seeta into turnovers on their first four possessions. The Sparks the game 13-0 but soon became weary and Seeta got back in the game.

Makerere scored just 4 points in the final 5 minutes of the quarter while Seeta scored 10 and closed the quarter with the momentum despite being down 17-10.

Makerere’s offense was still blunt and Seeta, which had the momentum, cut the deficit to 4 points. Midway through the quarter, Makerere employed the zone defense and it worked like Magic.

Seeta’s offense was smothered and they had no way through. This defense translated into offense and were able to score a number of points through transition. They also led the game 31-18 at the halftime break.

Makerere turned into a turnover machine in the third quarter. They registered 10 turnovers, mainly from ball handling and Seeta managed to score valuable points from turnovers. The Sparks’ kept losing the ball on offense and Seeta punished them on transition offense. Makerere scored just 7 points in the quarter while Seeta scored 15. However, Makerere still led the game 38-33.

In the fourth, the Sparks went back to their man-to-man defense and managed to punish Seeta. They forced them into 13 turnovers and managed to scored 12 points from turnovers. In the end, Makerere Sparks secured a 56-40 victory.

Seeta High has a 1-2 record. They will face the Nkumba Lady Marines and Lady Icons next on Saturday 4th April and Monday 6th respectively.

Makerere Sparks have won all their four games to start the season. Together with Amazon Rhino, they remain the only unbeaten teams. They take on the JT Junior Lady Jaguars and the Amazon Rhino next on Saturday 4th and Monday 6th respectively.
