The UPDF Lady Tomahawks registered a massive 72-55 victory against the defending champions, the JKL Lady Dolphins, in a shocking result.

This victory was very big for the army side in terms of its significance and it was the first time they secured a win against the JKL Lady Dolphins.

Coming into this game, the Lady Dolphins had fallen to the UCU Lady Canons 80-57 in their previous game. However, they had only 6 players available in that game and it was expected that the status quo would stay the same.

Just before playing the Lady Canons, the Lady Dolphins still had just 6 players available but secured a 21-point victory against the KIU Rangers. As thus, there was a lot of expectation for them to win this game.

The UPDF Lady Tomahawks had lost all their last 4 games and with their 4-6 record, they aimed to finish the first round strong.

UPDF started the game strong and led 10-2 early in the game. However, JKL was more efficient and scored 9 points in 2 minutes. At the end of the quarter, the game was tied 20-20. Flavia Oketcho scored 13 of the 20 points for JKL.

In the second quarter, UPDF had the edge and led the game 41-35 at the halftime break. JKL had offensive production from just 2 people. Flavia Oketcho and Tamasha Nsubuga scored 32 of the team’s 35 points and this was a problem. They needed other people to add to the production.

The third quarter was a stalemate, 13 points apiece, but in the fourth, UPDF took over. They outscored the Lady Dolphins 18-7 to win the game 72-55. In the final 6 minutes of the game, JKL scored just 2 points.

One of the reasons that JKL lost the game was the low production from Ritah Imanishimwe. After carrying them in the last 3 games, she scored just 8 points and was scored 2 of 21 attempts from the field.
