When the 2026 NBL Second round fixture was released, very many people were quick to point out the unexpected things. Among these were the new venues that were added; the Hoima City Stadium and Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
Hoima City Stadium was set to host 18 games from Friday 22nd May to Sunday 25th May but new information reveals that plans to host games there have been put off. This came as a result of pushback from the clubs due to the financial burden it would cause them.
However, for Hamz Stadium Nakivubo, the 6 NBL games set to be played there shall go on as played. The first 2 games shall take place on Wednesday 13th May while the other 4 shall be played on Martyrs 3rd June (Martyrs Day).
Currently, Hamz Stadium is the home of the Division One League, an arrangement that started in 2025. There were plans to host some NBL games at the Stadium in 2025 but they never materialized due to a number of reasons.
One of them was the slippery surface which has since been changed to a better one. Secondly, a lot of people feared for their safety since the stadium is in downtown. However, with the 2025 Division One season having finished successfully with no major incident, it was like an assurance to the fans that their safety will be guaranteed.
What makes this venue good is that it is central and easily accessible. Additionally, games have been happening here and a number of fans and players are already familiar with it. Also, the parking space is ample although traffic can be a problem.
