On Friday 1st May, a very unfortunate incident occurred which heavily affected the relegation conversation. The KCCA Leopards were set to face the Miracle Eaglets but the latter was awarded a walkover win in a rather bizarre manner.
The KCCA Leopards came in their red kit but the game commissioner, Joy Olinga, refused them to play in that kit as they were supposed to have a lighter color. After that, KCCA brought their white jersey, which was still not dry. However, the Miracle Eaglets refused to play the game and a walkover win was awarded to them.
There is a lot to unpack regarding that and we shall go into it in another article. For this one, we shall dissect how this win influences the relegation conversation.
Miracle Eaglets
In round one, the Miracle Eaglets finished with a 3-8 record. They had 1 win ahead of Nabisunsa and 2 ahead of Angels. In their first game of round 2, they lost to Angels and this heavily changed the relegation conversation. On Wedneday 1st May, the Eaglets lost to 7-woman JKL Lady Dolphins and this made their relegation fears worse.
However, with a walkover win against the KCCA Leopards, a side they were expected to lose to, they moved to 5 wins. The fifth win is from the fact that if a walkover is awarded, the first round game, which KCCA won, is also awarded as a walkover win to Miracle.
This now puts the Miracle Eaglets in a very comfortable place with 5 wins, 3 ahead of Nabisunsa and Angels. One or two more wins could be enough to ensure survival.
Nabisunsa
The high school side secured 2 wins in round one; against the Miracle Eaglets and Pearl Queens. Their biggest blow was the 72-73 loss to Angels and this could bite them in the back. Nabisunsa need to win about 4 or more games in order to stay in the conversation.
Most importantly, they need to complete the double against the Miracle Eaglets and also get a win against the Angels. They then must look for 3 or 4 more wins and hope that the Miracle Eaglets don’t win again.
Angels
Angels finished round one with just 1 win but started the second round on a high with a 53-50 win against the Miracle Eaglets. This increased their chances of survival but with the Miracle Eaglets 3 wins ahead of them, it seems unlikely that they can reach the 5-win mark. However, in sport, anything is possible and so we cannot count them out yet.
How significant is that walkover win?
With that walkover, the Miracle Eaglets secured 2 big wins which they wouldn’t have gotten under normal circumstances. This means that they are 3 wins ahead of both Angels and Nabisunsa which is a very big gap to cover for the chasing pack.
Miracle return to action on Wednesday 6th May against the Pearl Queens at Lugogo. Nabisunsa are currently at the 2026 USSSA games at Seroma Christian School and will return to action on 13th May when they take on the KCCA Leopards. Angels will face the Magic Stormers on 3rd May in their next game.
