The JT Lady Jaguars annihilated the JKL Lady Dolphins in a 93-62 victory on Friday 22nd May at Lugogo. This was like a battle between girls and women and literally, the Lady Dolphins had 46-a bunch of kids on the court. Shiphrah Kiranda, Melissa Taliba, Josephine Aminat, Melinda Laker are all kids who have represented Uganda at either U16 or U18 in the last 2 years.

When these two teams met in round one, the JKL Lady Dolphins won the game 78-68, and that was the only defeat for the Lady Jaguars in round one. Melissa Taliba had a spectacular performance, delivering 15 points. Given that she was available again, there was some hope that maybe she could deliver a similar performance.

The JT Lady Jaguars have been on a roll in this season and given the troubles that the JKL Lady Dolphins have, they were expected to thump the Lady Dolphins. They were also highly motivated as they sought to get revenge.

After the first quarter, JT Lady Jaguars led the game 19-15. However in the second, JKL was beaten black and blue. The JT Lady Jaguars outscored JKL 27-10 to lead 46-25 at the halftime break.

In the first half, Mary Priscillar Nambogo was on fire. She dropped 16 points including 3 3-point shots made. The Lady Jagurars managed to scored 5 3-point shots whereas JKL made just 1.

In the second half, the mauling did not stop. JT outscored them 29-17 in the third quarter to make it a 33-point game and at this point, there was no coming back.

Talking points

The JKL Lady Dolphins have had numerous problems mainly centred on player availability. Shadiah Nassanga has yet to return while Brenda Ekone hasn’t recovered to full game fitness. Ritah Imanishimwe was also out for this game.

Another problem is the lack of a point guard. With Evelyne Nakiyingi having departed, she left a very big hole. The personnel available is on a low level compared to where Evelyne was and this will affect them tremendously.

The JT Lady Jaguars struggled with scoring in the last 2 years. However, this year they have been ruthless and this was another example of how lethal they can be. This will instil more fear in any opponent that they come against.
