The JKL Dolphins produced their most explosive offensive performance of the 2026 National Basketball League season, pouring in a season-high 114 points to defeat the Kampala Rockets 114-75. This victory also too them to 6 wins and relieved them off the relegation pressure.
Coming into the game, both teams had each lost their last 5 games. However, the Dolphins had won some second round games whilst the Rockets hadn’t won a game and had already been relegated.
This was a must win for the JKL Dolphins if they were serious about surviving relegation and for a moment, the Rockets put up a fight but the inevitable happened.
JKL led the game 29-22 after the first quarter with 20 of their points coming from the paint. On the other hand, the Rockets scored 4 3-point shots in the quarter.
The second quarter was low scoring compared to the first as both teams scored 17 points and JKL led the game by 46-39 at the halftime break.
Both teams started trading baskets in the third quarter but the Dolphins eventually ran away with the game. The Rockets scored 4 3-pointers in arrow to start the quarter and finished with 6 in the quarter. On the other hand, the Dolphins were very efficient from the field as they scored 12 of their 19 field goal attempts including 5 made 3-point shots. Consequently, they led the game 82-67 after the third period.
The Rockets scored just 2 points in the first 5 minutes of the fourth quarter and the JKL went on a 13-2 run, gaining a 26-point lead. As if that wasn’t enough, they were still hungry for more and went on to score 19 points in the final 5 minutes to win the game 114-75.
Relegation fears eased
With this win, the JKL Dolphins now have a 6 wins, 2 more than the UMU Flames and 1 more than the UPDF Tomahawks. If UMU Flames or UPDF lose 1 of their remaining games, JKL Dolphins will have survived relegation. JKL face the Rezlife Saints in their final game of the season.
Facts
JKL’s 114 is the most points scored in a game by a team this season. Additionally, their 68 points in the second half is the most scored by a team in a half this season.
