Nabisunsa got relegated from the NBL following their 77-70 defeat against the Miracle Eaglets on Saturday 6th May at ABJA Park. After narrowly surviving in the past couple of seasons, Nabisunsa were unfortunate this time around and they will be playing in the FUBA Division One in the 2027 season.
Coming into this game, Nabisunsa had to win in order to keep their hopes of survival live. On the other hand, the Miracle Eaglets would seal their survival if they won but they still had a huge advantage over Nabisunsa in terms of wins registered.
Both teams were neck and neck in the first quarter but Nabisunsa closed with an 8-2 run to take the lead 24-17. They sunk 3 triples in the first period compared to the 1 for the Eaglets. Additionally, Martha Yikiru was efficient as she dropped 8 points with 3 of 4 from the field.
In the second quarter, Nabisunsa led by as many as 13 points and it looked like they had the game under control. However, that did not last as the Eaglets outscored them 11-3 to close the quarter. Caroline Nakato was on fire as she dropped 10 points in the quarter. At the halftime break, Nabisunsa led 46-43 and the game was there for the taking for either team.
The Miracle Eaglets started the third period well as they made an 8-0 run to take a 5-point lead. They took the quarter 9-14 and took a 2-point lead into the final period. One of the problems Nabisunsa faced was their reliance on the 3 ball. Despite sinking 2 in the quarter, they missed 9 attempts which played in the hands of the Eaglets.
It was close game in the fourth quarter but Nabisunsa couldn’t tie. They came close but every time they looked like they could tie or take the lead, the Miracle Eaglets responded and eventually won the game 77-70. With this loss, Nabisunsa was relegated to the FUBA Division One.
Following their loss on Saturday, the high school side was back in action on Sunday as they faced the number one team, the JT Lady Jaguars at YMCA. The Lady Jaguars were merciless as they thumped Nabisunsa 111-32, to seal the number one seed.
Nabisunsa’s season which was filled with so much expectation will come to an end on Wednesday 10th as they face the JKL Lady Dolphins who must win in order to secure a playoffs spot.
