The 2026 NBL Regular season came to an end on Sunday 14th June with the Kampala Rockets and the UPDF Tomahawks being relegated while the Nam Blazers, City Oilers and the Rezlife Saints finished 1-3 respectively.

The season was very competitive as the number 1 and 2 teams were tied with a 20-2 record, the number 9, 10 and 11 teams were also tied with a 6-16 record. Also, the number 4, 5 and 6 teams were tied with a 12-10 record and head to head is what separated them.

With this, there were a couple of top performers and we shall highlight them in this article.

Edrine Ekau

In his NBL season debut, Edrine Ekau has mesmerized very many people. His composure on the ball has been like no other and he helped his team, the Rezlife Saints, take down both the Namuwongo Blazers and the City Oilers.

In their win against the Blazers, Ekau dropped a game-high 32 points, 20 coming in the first half. He was also the top performer when the Saints slayed the Oilers and he registered 25 points and 8 rebounds in that game.

Ekau finished the regular season as the top scorer with 380 (avg 17.3) points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.2 steals. His performances also helped him gain recognition and ultimately a call up to the Silverbacks (senior men’s national team).

Baale Fayed

Coming into the season, we knew that Fayed had a huge task ahead of him; to take the Oilers back to where they belong; the top. With an improved squad around him, the situation was going to be better than it had been in the 2025 regular season.

The City Oilers went from losing 10 regular season games in 2025 to just 2 in 2026, the mood and energy in the Oilers camp has been a positive one. One of the key areas that Fayed has helped the 10-time champions is his ability to lead on and off the court. He leads by example and this is one of the things that has helped galvanize the team.

On the court, Fayed has made the second most 3-point shots with 56 while he is top 5 in assists with 84. Additionally, Baale averages 14.3 (top 5) and also has the third most steals with 48. This year, he was mainly being used off the ball but occasionally, he took over as the primary ball handler.

Mark Ngobi

Ngobi can be described as the engine of the Victoria Crocs. He has consistently put up big performances and even on an off night offensively, he puts in the work defensively. Mark is also a leader with his actions on the court and it is no surprise that his teammates have so much reverence for him.

Ngobi is the only player (besides Edrine Ekau) to average 15+ points with his 16.3.  He added 5.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.1 steals. The interesting statistic is, for the second season running, mark Ngobi is top 2 in scoring.

Chuol Nyout

When we talk about the Victoria Crocs, we usually point to Mark Ngobi first but Chuol has arguably been their most important player. His presence in the paint has caused teams lots of problem both offensively and defensively.

Chuol averaged 12.7 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.4 blocks. He was also the second most used player for the Crocs, which further stresses how important they needed him on the floor.

Fataki  Nyembo

Namuwongo Blazers’ Franck Nyembo was not as explosive as we saw in Sommet last year. However, he was a consistent performer and perhaps the best from the defending champions.

He averaged 13.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.6 steals and had a staggering 54.1% efficiency from the field.

Joshua Duallo

If one is looking for the main reason why the UMU Flames survived relegation, Joshua Duallo is one man that you have to look at. He has been the engine for the UMU Flames and he leads on and off the floor, and most importantly, by example.

Joshua has been their anchor defensively and is among the most productive players in the league. He is one of 2 players to average a double-double with 11.3 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2.1 steals and 2 blocks.
