The Uganda Women’s 3×3 senior team is in currently in France and they are ready for the FIBA 3×3 Women’s series stop in Poitiers, France. The event shall be taking place from Friday 26th June to Saturday 27th with 16 teams participating.
10 teams have already made it to the pool stage while 2 of the remaining 6 will play in the qualifying draw in order to earn their slot. The 3×3 Gazelles will face teams, Rome and Paris in the qualifying draw. If they win both games, they advance to the pool stage where they will face both Australia and Bucharest. In addition, they would need to finish top 2 in the pool phase in order to advance to the next stage.
In the previous stop, Uganda had only 3 players available as Perus Nyamwenge couldn’t make it due to visa issues. However, this time round, all the 4 players will be available and there’s a caveat. Perus Nyamwenge was replaced by Leslie Vorpahl, who has been with the team for a number of days in France.
Secondly, Leslie is familiar with her teammates as she was part of the Gazelles training camp that took place in Germany in 2024. The team has also took part in a Dreals 3×3 basketball camp in Poitiers that was aimed at improving their craft.
Perus Nyamwenge has also joined the team in France despite not being on the team of 4 that will be playing this stop.
