The Uganda women’s 3×3 team is set to make their debut at the 2026 commonwealth games in Glasgow, Scotland. This will be the first time that a Uganda basketball team competes at these prestigious games.

Uganda qualified for the games after having been the number one team in Africa (for the Commonwealth nations) by 1st December, 2025. Most of the points Uganda accumulated came from the 2025 FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series and the 3×3 Nations League which Uganda dominated in Benin.

The four (4) players who will represent Team Uganda include; Jane Asinde, Melissa Akullu, Perus Nyamwenge and Jamila Nansikombi. The quartet all played at the 2026 FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series stops which were held in France.

In the first stop in Orleans, the quartet was supposed to play together but Perus Nyamwenge was unable to make the trip due to some visa challenges. In the second in Poitiers, Nyamwnge once again missed and the other trio was joined by Leslie Vorpahl.

At their final stop in Marseille, Jamila Nansikombi did not play and was replaced by Perus Nyamwenge. At that same event, Uganda finished sixth (6th) which was their highest ever finish at the Women’s Series.

Team Uganda comes into this series as one of the top teams, having multiple players who have played at multiple highly rated FIBA 3×3 events. Teams that are serious threats for Uganda include; Australia and New Zealand. All the other teams, Uganda should be very confident in chances of making a podium finish.

At the moment, the Pools have yet to be decided but the competition will take place from Friday 24th to Wednesday 29th.
