Following their triumph at the FIBA 3×3 Youth Nations League in Mombasa, Kenya, the Uganda U23 team, under the name Kampala, will shift their focus to the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Stopwhich will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan from July 18-19, 2026.

The team qualified after playing at the qualifiers that were held at Makerere Pool Court, where, despite losing in the finals, got selected to represent the Nation.

This competition comes after the senior team competed at the 3 FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series stops in France where they climaxed on a high with a 6th placed finish, the highest ever for a Ugandan team.

Team

The squad includes; Shillah Lamunu Aber, Martina Alexis Anyango, Sylivia Nakituuka and Mary Priscillar Nambogo. The quartet has a lot of experience as they played and won at the Youth Nations leagues in 2025 and 2026. Additionally, they have all played at the Women’s Series in 2025 not forgetting the U23 3×3 World Cup in 2025.

Qualifying Draw

Because the Baku stop features powerhouse commercial clubs and senior national teams like the top-seeded hosts Neftchi SOCAR  and recent Caceres champions Rapid Bucharest,  Kampala (Uganda) will have to earn their spot in the Main Draw the hard way.

Uganda (Kampala) has been placed in Qualifying Draw A, together with Slovakia and Slovenia and only one team will advance. Should the Ugandan squad top their qualifying group, they will earn a ticket to face world-class opposition in Pool C, headlined by third-seeded Chile, one of the fastest-rising teams on the global tour and Latvia.

Why It Matters

Participating in high-level tournaments like the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series is a vital component of Uganda’s broader vision of qualifying for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Additionally, facing tactical European sides like Slovakia,  Slovenia and others gives these U23 athletes the trial-by-fire experience needed to lift their level.

For the young Ugandan contingent, this stop represents an important platform for development, global exposure, and a continuation of their ultimate journey toward building momentum for future major tournament qualifications and the most importantly the Olympics.

Uganda will also play the FIBA U23 3×3 World Cup for the third consecutive year and this quartet could be the same ones to represent. Playing at the women’s series will help prepare them for the World Cup.
