The Uganda 3×3 Women’s team will make their debut at the 2026 Commonwealth games in Glasgow and there is a lot optimism in their chances. The team qualified after being the number 1 seeded Africa team in the commonwealth countries by 1st December 2025. As thus, the team will take their talents to the global stage.
Format
The teams have been divided into 2 pools with Uganda pitted against Jamaica, Cayman Island, Kenya, Fiji and Australia. A round robin format will be used for the pool games with the top team advancing straight the semifinals.
The number 2 and 3 teams shall then face off in a playoff game with the winner joining the number 1 team in the semifinals. The winner in either pool shall face the winner of the playoff (semifinal qualifier) of the other pool in the semifinals.
Uganda’s chances
In Uganda’s pool, they are ranked second only behind Australia. Matter of fact, Uganda is ranked fourth among all the teams at the tournament.
Team Uganda includes; Jane Asinde, Melissa Akullu, Perus Nyamwenge and Jamila Nansinkombi. The four all played at the 3 FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Stop which were in France. Uganda closed their France tour on a high after finishing 6th in Marseille, their highest ever finish at the stop.
With Uganda’s current form, there is a lot of confidence in the team to make it to the semifinals and possibly achieve a podium finish.

Journey to the Olympics
Playing at the commonwealth games is a very big step for Uganda. However, they are also in a mission to make it to the Olympics in Los Angeles. A lot of activity is going on and soon, the U21 3×3 team will be traveling to Monastir, Tunisia for the FIBA 3×3 Youth Nations league.
Each and every tournament matters for Uganda and the commonwealth is equivalent to an introduction to the big stage.
