The JT Lady jaguars and the Magic Stormers will face off in a repeat of the 2026 NBL semifinals. The Stormers shocked JT in their last game.

Game One of the best-of-five NBL women’s semifinal series between the Magic Stormers and the JT Lady Jaguars tips off on Friday 24th at the Lugogo Indoor Arena. This series is a direct sequel to the 2025 NBL postseason, where Sudi Ulanga’s JT Lady Jaguars swept the Magic Stormers 3-0 to make their first-ever finals appearance

History

In 2025, the Magic Stormers faced the KCCA leopards in the quarterfinals and many didn’t give them a chance. However, having lost game one, they won games tow and three to progress to the final four. In the semifinals, they were up against the JT Lady jaguars and once again, not many gave them a chance. As expected, they lost and were eliminated.

This time around though, the landscape has shifted. Despite having been the number one seed, a win for the Lady jaguars is not as obvious as it was in 2025. The Magic Stormers are a much improved squad and they have scores to settle.

Path to the semifinals

The top-seeded Lady Jaguars enter the series full of confidence after having defeated the defending champions, JKL Lady Dolphins, in the prior round. Meanwhile, the Magic Stormers earned their semifinal having seen off the Pearl Queens in a series that was decided in game 3.

Regular Season Head to Head Record

During the regular season, each team managed to master a victory. The JT Lady Jaguars won the tie in round one, 70-36 but in the second round, they were restricted to just 46 points and the Stormers won 47-46.

Tactical Battles

Rebounding: The Lady Jaguars will be without the services of their star player, mercy Batamuliza, who averages 11 rebounds. This leaves a very big gap and the Sarah Ageno has tried to fill it although she will need much more help. We are yet to see the best of Bridget Aber while Annet Among has had some good although we haven’t seen much of her.

On the other side, the Magic Stormers have a number of players who can rebound the basketball. Joy Nekesa Mupalia and Kiy Ajah are very dependable while we have seen Eve Grace put up execptioanl performances here and there. For example, in their last game, she had a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double. All those three, together with Christine Nakito, are towers, and can affect the game tremendously with their ability to rebound and defend.

Perimeter Firepower: The JT lady Jaguars have scored the most points thus far and each and every person has been able to contribute on the offensive end. Brenda Kayaga, Shakira Nanvubya and maimuna Nabbosa have all had good games although not consistently lethal. The one person who has been a problem is Mary Priscillar Nambogo and she has been a menace from behind the arc.

The Stormers shooters haven’t been consistent but we know that on a good day, they can light up from deep. Moreen Amoding and Jesca Namugala can catch fire, while Daphine Adong and Susan Eben and Kur Ajah are a threat from everywhere on the floor. The Stormers have to make sure that their shooting is spot on if they are to pose a threat to the Lady Jaguars.

Tactical Focus: The Jaguars traditionally rely on fluid ball movement to shred zonal marking. On the other hand, Coach John Omondi likes to have press and it has yielded results time and time again.
