The defending champions, the Namuwongo Blazers, took a commanding 2-0 lead in the NBL semifinals after cruising to a dominant 92-62 victory over the UCU Canons in game 2.
The game was played on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the Lugogo Indoor Arena and the comprehensive 30-point blowout put the top-seeded Blazers just one win away from securing a spot in the NBL Finals.
Coming into this series, knew that the Canons winning a game would be very difficult but the start to the contest in game one sparked some hope. UCU led the game in the second quarter but when the Blazers closed the half with a 17-0 run, we knew that it was game over. Namuwongo went on to win the game 89-62.
In game 2, the Blazers were hot from the get-go. They scored 27 points in the first quarter with 13 coming from Franck Nyembo. Namuwongo feasted from the free throw line as the Canons were constantly fouling. They attempted 16 free throws in the first quarter alone and managed to bury 12.
In the second quarter, the Blazers created a significant separation. They outscored the Canons 23-11 to take a 21-point lead at halftime. The Blazers were firing on all cylinders and the canons couldn’t keep up.
The second half was all about game management which the Blazers did very well. Even when you thought that they had gathered a big lead, the Blazers wanted more. 5 of their 6 field goals were from the 3-point line.
Top Performers
Fataki Nyembo was on fire as he scored a game high 21 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in 20 minutes. Peter Obleng and James Okello each had 11 while Innocent Ochera scored 10 points.
Jimmy Otim and Daniel Muganzi were the key drivers to the UCU canons’ offense and they each finished the game with 12 points. Marvin Jesse Okurut scored 3 3-point shots and closed the game 11 points.

The Namuwongo Blazers have placed the UCU Canons on the absolute brink of postseason elimination. Playoff Semifinal Series given their 2-0 lead in the series. The 2 teams will meet for game 3 on Wednesday 29th July at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.
