The Uganda U21 started their FIBA 3×3 Youth Nations League on a high as they emerged champions of stop 1 with a 100% record. The team won all their 3 games to start the 1-week tournament on a high.

Game One victory

The team started their campaign with a duel against the hosts, Tunisia. Despite being undersized compared to Tunisia, Uganda managed to secure a 16-9 victory.  Bushira Namyanja and Zoe Atek caused a lot of problems for Tunisia and they score 6 and 7 points respectively. With her towering height, Sarah Namale anchored the defence in the paint and gave the hosts a hard time.

Untidy performance against the neighbours

In their next game, Uganda took on neighbours Kenya and this was a very untidy performance from both teams. Uganda led the game 5-1 after about 3 minutes but they struggled to put the ball in the hole for the rest of the game. Vanessa Adongo scored a huge 2-point shot for Kenya in the final second but time was up and Uganda secured an 8-7 win. This win meant that they topped their pool and advanced to the final.

Defeating Algeria

Both Uganda and Algeria came into the final with 100% record. Uganda imposed themselves early in the game and with about 3 minutes played, they led the game 7-3. They made another 8-0 run to take the lead to 10 points with about 2 minutes to play.

At this point, it was a matter of time before they secured the win and they went on to win the game 17-7.

Sarah Namale terrorized Algeria in the paint and she finished with 6 points while Bushira Namayanja had a game-high 7 points.

The men finished fourth as they won 1 and lost 1 of their games. In their opening game, they fell to Algeria 21-6 but they recovered in their second and secured a 21-18 win against Benin.

Stop 2

The team will return to action for stop 2 on Tuesday 4th August. The men will face Kenya and Benin in pool A while the ladies will face Egypt and Benin also in pool A.
