Day two of the FUBA Division One delivered as 3 of the 4 men’s series became tied, sending them into game threes. The number one (Ihoops), two (Watoto), and three (Berkley) seeds managed to win their games and avoid getting swept.

Ihoops vs YMCA Hamstars

In game one, YMCA won the tie 68-60 and wanted to get the job done on Sunday. Ihoops knew the job at hand and a win was imperative. This was another very tense game and YMCA looked like they were running away with it. However, Ihoops managed to win it late.

After the first quarter, YMCA led the game 17-16. The second quarter was high scoring but it was the Hamstars who had the edge at the halftime break. They scored 5 3-point shots and led the game 42-36.

Ihoops had to have a big third quarter and they did exactly that. They limited YMCA to just 10 points and 16 points to make the game level going into the fourth quarter.

The final period was very close and YMCA led for most of it. However, when Ihoops took the lead, they never relinquished it. In crunch time, Ihoops trailed by 5 but made an 8-0 run to take a 3-point lead and they managed to see the game out.

Waleed Omar led in scoring and registered 19 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Wadaya Blair added 14 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Mithiang Biong led in rebounding with 13 plus 9 points.

Shirack Ben scored a game high 22 points while Hijah Mulisho had 11 points and 5 rebounds. Christian Ndibu was limited to just 7 points and 11 rebounds.

Watoto vs Entebbe Knight Riders

This was a very end to end game and there were a total of 12 lead changes and the game tied 5 times. Watoto had lost game one and game two was a must. There was no room for error. The Entebbe Knight Riders took quarter one 14-11. Watoto changed the tide at the end of the second and took the lead. They scored 4 3-point shots in the final 2 minutes of the half to lead the game 33-28.

The Knight Riders made a 6-0 run take the lead but Watoto also made a run of their own. They made a 7-0 run to lead by 6 points. The teams were neck and neck for the remainder of the quarter and Watoto led 49-48.

The pressure in the fourth quarter was crazy. Both teams were fighting but the Riders took a 4-point lead with less than 2 minutes to go. Omara Emmanuel scored a quick basket to make it a 2-point game but Watoto managed to make a defensive stop. They then managed to get 2 free throws but Sydney Walusimbi made 1 of the 2 free throws.

Entebbe Knight Riders made a huge error as they made an offensive foul and gave the possession to Watoto. Osinde James gave Watoto the lead from the free throw line but the Knight Riders missed an opportunity to take the lead after Tsiminy Kabongo missed 2 free throws with less than 30 seconds left. Watoto went on to win the game 63-62 and forced game 3 which will be played on Saturday 26th at Hamz Stadium.

Omara Emmanuel went off for 25 points and 17 rebounds. Elijah Nsereko made 11 points while Sydney David Walusimbi had 7 points and 8 rebounds.

Luc Rukondo scored 12 points while Kimonge Integre scored a team-high 13 points. Vgny Tsiminy finished with 9 points and 13 rebounds.

Berkley vs Nkumba Marines

Berkley lost game one and this was a must win game. They came into the game with intent and the first half was exactly what they needed. Berkley led the game 18-11 after the first quarter. They also took the second, 21-15 and led the game 39-26 at the halftime break.

Nkumba had to crawl out of this hole but it was a difficult and they lost the game 61-72. Berkley managed to level the series and force a game 3.

Richard Anyunva registered 21 points and 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Opio Emmanuel came in with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Duot Ajang led his team in rebounding with 12 rebounds plus 7 points.

Mangak Chol Thon registered a double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds plus 3 blocks. Steven Katabira had 12 points, 3 rebounds plus 2 steals.

All the series are tied 1-1 and the teams shall meet for a decisive game 3 on Saturday 26th. The winners shall be advancing to the semifinals with an opportunity to earn promotion to the NBL.
