Christian Ndibu and Derrick Wekesa each registered a double-double as the YMCA Hamstars defeated KIU Titans 81-71 in game two to level the series. This was a very competitive game because at some point, it looked like YMCA had run away with it. To the surprise of many, KIU came back and tied the game. YMCA was then able to finish strong and that explains the 10-point victory.
Coming into the game, KIU Titans had won game one 74-57. That game was close but KIU outscored YMCA 23-11 in the fourth quarter and thus the 17-point win. This time around, YMCA knew that being down 0-2 would be a big hole and they had to get the win.
YMCA led the game 23-20 after the first quarter. They also managed to keep ahead in the second quarter and by the halftime break, YMCA led 39-35. In the third quarter, YMCA made an 11-0 run to take a 14-point lead, the highest in the game.
Going into the final period, KIU trailed by 9 points but they showed that they were hungry for the win. They scored on 9 of their first 13 possessions to tie the game with 3 minutes to go. At this point, the tension was at its peak but YMCA maintained their composure and managed to close the game well.
One changing was after KIU had tied the game. Daniel Odokonyero dived for a loose ball and collided with the opponent. He was charged with an unsportsmanlike foul and YMCA scored 3 crucial points off of that. The remainder of the game was all YMCA and they won the game 81-71.
