The UPDF Ladyhawks managed to outlast YMCA in game 1 of the 2023 FUBA Division 1 Finals courtesy of a phenomenal fourth quarter performance.
The game was as tight as they get but UPDF, who had gone off script, from using their usual Full Court strategy, finally employed it and it worked magic in the final quarter.
They cornered YMCA and as a result, YMCA opted for the long overhead passes. As a result, UPDF forced forced 10 turnovers in the fourth quarter and this turned out to be the difference.
YMCA will have to tactically adjust to be able to beat the high press of UPDF as it is their main weapon.
The game also saw a bit of drama as the UPDF bench received 2 technical fouls, the Coach and Manager both got ejected for confronting the officials.
Game 2 returns on Saturday and it will be very interesting to see how both teams adjust.
