Score Beyond Leadership Organization successfully concluded a 3-day training of trainers (TOT) program at Nakasero Primary School ahead of the start of the school visits in April, for the Skilling in Agripreneurship for Increased Youth Employment (SAY) project.

The SAY project is funded by the Kingdom of Netherlands, partnering with AVSI and Score beyond being one of the implementing Partners. The project Is in its fourth and final year but Score Beyond came on board in 2023 and they visited 8 schools working with 1300 students.

This year, Score Beyond will visit five schools, St Catherine Girls, Mwiri College, Iganga S.S., Bishop Flynn High School, and Gulu High School with a target of 870 students. Each school will be visited five times to check and follow up on the progress of the success of the project.

This year’s training saw a huge increment in the number of trainers attending, with over 50 people present for the 3-day training from the North, Central and the East regions.

The trainings were conducted by Sport for Development expert Edith Nayiga, FIFA Instructor Tom Ssali, and AVSI agriprinuership skills development instructor Kenneth Bahati. The other sessions were led by the different coaches, mostly the ones who were around for 2023 school visits and training.

The Executive Director of Score Beyond, Mavita Ali said this about this year’s preparation. “I think we are much better prepared this time, we have had an in-depth training preparation for sports-based programming.

“We are not doing much sports skills, we are doing a lot of sports-based programming, which has been the basis this time. The more people we recruit, the more we spread knowledge. It’s all about using sports to cause mindset change which we want other people to adapt to as well as organizations that are very effective and affordable, so this is very impactful, a win-win on both sides, the learners and for us as well”

Caesar Kizito, a coach from 2023 commented on this year’s training. Compared to 2023. “The difference has been the turn-up; last time we didn’t have as many coaches that came in as this time. We had a large number from Gulu which was amazing” 

“We have a program that we normally want to teach other coaches that come in for training, it’s more like sharing the fundamentals of the school programs to run” he added. 

“The training has been fun, informative in a plethora of ways and I believe I have gotten a lot of skills that can help me in agripreneurship and also that can help me teach others about it through sports” Avitus Ngabirano, a new coach for Score Beyond Leadership.
