Heathens finally get the better of Pirates in Gulu: Gulu 7s

The Heathens finally defeated the Black Pirates after the teams met in the finals for the third time in a row. Kato Nicholas and Denis Etwau were the try scorers for Heathens while Kamiza Jones scored for the sea robbers.

Finally, the Platinum Credit Heathens have a sigh of relief after defeating the Stanbic Black Pirates in Gulu after the sides had met in the finals for the third consecutive time.

After the Thunderbirds defeating the Black Pearls in the ladies finals, the Heathens, another Kyadondo team was out to inflict more pain to another King’s Park team, the Black Pirates.

The Heathens opened the scoring through Denis Etwau who scored in the corner.

Nobert Okeny did really well to hold onto the ball as long he could to attract the defense and he offloaded to the gas-man who made no mistake.

The 2 were part of the Uganda Sevens team that was supposed to have traveled to South Africa for the Willem Strauss 7s but after being denied visas, Heathens added made late changes to their team and the 2, despite missing day One, were present on day Two and combined for the opener.

About a minute later, Heathens struck again through Kato Nicholas after the Black Pirates had lost a line out in their own territory.

In the second half, the Heathens defense held on tight repelling the Pirates offense but the Wakiso based team soon got one back.

Haruna Muhammed made a beautiful pass to Jones Kamiza who showed off beautiful footwork to leave Denis Etwau on the ground and ran to the try area.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough time for the Pirates to get one back and the Heathens won their first circuit 12:05.

The Heathens defeated the Kobs 21:07 in the quarter-finals and sailed past Walukuba in the semis with a 26:05 victory.

The Black Pirates went past the Rhinos 19:07 in the quarter-finals and made their 3 consecutive finals after defeating the Jinja Hippos 26:14 in the semifinals.

The 2 Jinja sides who had each gotten a result against the eventual finalists earlier in the group stages were unable to make a repeat and when they met in the third place playoff, the Hippos turned out victorious, 10:05.
