Watoto win their first game of the second round after putting the Old Tymers under lockdown in the fourth quarter to win 65:54.

Watoto returned to action after about 2 months and they were able to take care of business against struggling Old Tymers.

Old Tymers led by 4 points after the first quarter and in the second, it was a seesaw game.

Old Tymers were in the lead for most of the time but Watoto kept knocking on the door, tied the game at some point but most importantly, stayed close.

Old Tymers scored 2 buckets to start the third quarter and made it a 10-point game, their highest lead in the game.

However, Watoto made a 15-2 run and by the end of the quarter, the game was tied 43 a piece.

Watoto’s defense elevated in the fourth quarter and cut out all threats in the interior.

Old Tymers scored just 2 Field Goals in the final quarter and 0 points in the paint.

Watoto kept making defensive stops and capitalizing on offense. They made a 10-0 run and at that point, they were able to finish off Old Tymers.

Coach’s Remarks

Watoto’s Coach Jonathan Egau highlighted on what helped them win this game.

“We didn’t play good defense in the first half but we had to adjust. Everything that they got was more in the point. They were out rebounding us and driving into the paint. We focused on stopping the penetration into the paint, making sure to box out and picking the rebounds and we had some transition”

He also emphasized the goals of the team after their first win in round 2,

“Our goal is to make the playoffs this year. This team is good enough to make the playoffs and it’s evident on how we have been playing most of the games”

Finally, he commented on the news that some teams could be docked points for violation of the foreign player rule;

“The tragedy is hitting teams and it’s an opportunity for us but we don’t want to win games in the board room, we want to win on the floor. We wouldn’t want that to happen to them. We want to progress to the playoffs or even win the championship on a fair ground”
