The Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) held its inaugural Awards Dinner on Wednesday, 19th March, at the Sheraton Gardens.

The event is aimed at awarding top excelling athletes, and sports administrators in their different sporting disciplines.

Among those recognized were the Gazelles and Silverbacks stars, Hope Akello and Titus Lual as the Best Female and Best Male Players in 2024.

Hope Akello was the MVP in the 2024 NBL season and she averaged a double-double, 11.9 points, 11.1 rebounds plus 2.9 assists and 2.5 steals.

Just like Hope, Titus was named the MVP of the 2024 NBL season after helping the City Oilers win their 10th consecutive championship.

He averaged 11.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1.5 steals, 2.2 blocks and led the league in blocks with 62.

To start the 2025 season, he is out with an injury that could see him sidelined till the start of the second round.

The NBL tips off on Friday 21st March and we shall be having 2 huge games.

Hope Akello’s JKL Lady Dolphins shall be facing the JT Lady Jaguars in the season opener.

The biggest game of the day shall be the two title favorites, Namuwongo Blazers and City Oilers going neck and neck.

2025 has alot of basketball activity including the Afrobasket and the Women’s Afrobasket.

These 2 competitions, together with the National Basketball League (NBL) may determine the winner at the next UOC Awards Dinner.
