Victoria University got off to the perfect start to the 2025 NBL season after defeating Kampala Rockets 51-48.

This was one of the closest games on the opening weekend, but both teams were inefficient as they both shot below 30% from the field.

The first quarter was tied 8 a piece but in the second, Kampala Rockets had the edge and took a 4-point lead into halftime.

In the final minute of the game, Kampala Rockets trailed by 6 points but Brian Opio and Mpiya Juf scored back-to-back triples to tie the game.

However, the Victoria Crocs managed to score a couple of late free throws to win this game 51-48.

Talking points

Both teams were very inefficient on the day, Victoria with 25% FG while Kampala Rockets had 24%.

Victoria University had just 1/21, 4% 3P, and that ought to be a source of concern for the coach.

Despite committing multiple turnovers, 25 for Victoria and 20 for Kampala Rockets, both teams were not punished as we only saw a combined 28 points from turnovers.

Victoria University will face Namuwongo Blazers in their next encounter on Wednesday 26th at Abja Park.

Both teams will be looking to maintain their perfect start to the season.

The Kampala Rockets lost their second game of the season to the Rezlife Saints.

They will be back in action on Wednesday 26th as they take on the UCU Canons in their quest for the first victory in the season.
