Newly formed Pearl Queens has advanced to the National Basketball League (NBL) on their first attempt.
This came after completing a sweep against Kampala University in the semi-finals.
After a dominant 68-34 win in game one and a 56-40 victory in game two, Pearl Queens came into the game as the heavy favourites and all signs pointed to a sweep.
As expected, Pearl Queens started the game strong.
They led the game 21-9 after the first quarter with Lavin Auma scoring 10 points.
However, in the second quarter, Kampala University stepped up both offensively and defensively.
They scored 18 points while Pearl Queens put up 12 and at the half time break, the game was 33-27.
K.U made 3 3-pointers in period three, Victoria Nalwanga with 2 while Nuwasasira Nicholah made the other. The 2 combined for 13 points in the third quarter.
They also tied the game and had a chance to take the lead but Nicholah missed 2 free throws.
However, Pearl Queens scored the final 4 points of the quarter and closed with the momentum.
With 5:03 left, Pearl Queens led 51-49 but Lavin Auma took matters into her own hands.
She dominated and registered 13 points and 2 steals in the final 5 minutes.
Kampala University scored just 3 points in the final 5 minutes and Pearl Queens won 68-52.
