Makerere Sparks edge Kampala University to maintain perfect start

Makerere Sparks registered their third straight win of the 2026 Division One season after edging ‘contenders’ Kampala University 47-39.

Following their perfect start to the season, the Makerere side aimed to defeat fellow contenders, Kampala University, in a repeat of the 2025 third place playoff.

This was going to be a very difficult game for them and both teams went at each other for most f the game.

It was a very slow start to the game for both teams and Kampala University led 10-8 after the first quarter.

In the second, Makerere had the edge and took it 12-8 to make the score level, 20-20, at the halftime break.

The Sparks established themselves in the third quarter as they upped their game on offense, scoring 17 points while limiting Kampala University to 9. Makerere made a 10-2 run and this put them in a very strong position heading into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter was full of turnovers. Makerere registered 10 turnovers while Kampala University registered 9 but the former managed to see out the game with a 47-39 victory.

In 2025, Kampala University managed to defeat Makerere Sparks in the first round. A victory of this nature instils more confidence in the players that they care among the best teams in the division and this should be their year to earn promotion.
