Makerere Sparks’ road to the NBL has become rocky as Seeta High won game 2 to take a 2-1 lead in the series. The high school side won the game 58-47 to inch closer to NBL qualification.
The previous day, they had won game two 50-43 to level the series. It is safe to say that they had the momentum and were keen on turning the series around.
Makerere started the game with an 8-0 run. However, their offense went dry shortly after whereas Seeta was just picking up. Seeta scored 13 unanswered points to take a 5-point lead and halftime, they led the game 15-12.
In the second quarter, Seeta High made sure to maintain the lead. The Sparks struggled immensely from the free throw line as they missed 8 of their 12 free throw attempts. On the other hand, Seeta made 3 of their 4 free throw attempts and they led the game 29-25 at halftime.
Both teams’ offenses were off in the third but Seeta managed to extend their lead to 7 points heading into the fourth quarter. This is when the game almost changed. Makerere started the final period with energy and they made 2 quick baskets. However, Seeta steadied their ship and made an 8-0 run to take a 12-point lead with about 5 minutes to play.
The final minutes were competitive but Seeta managed to stay ahead and won the game 58-47. With that win, they are now a win away from getting promoted to the NBL.
Top Performers
Christine Namyaalo scored a game-high 23 points plus 6 assists and 5 steals. Bilha Akinyi had 13 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Achomo Lucky came off the bench and finished with 13 points.
Purity Lamara led Makerere in scoring with 10 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. Mary Deng had a game-high 11 rebounds plus 7 points.
Must win game 4
The Makerere Sparks must win game four in order to force a decisive game five. This game shall be played on Wednesday October 7 at the YMCA.
