The NBL Game week 14 unveiled yet more dram as Ndejje completed the double over UCU, KIU Titans narrowly survive in a 1 point game against Our Savior and Power looking like a rejuvenated team.
D Mark Power won both their fixtures and looks like they have turned their season around with the new signings, particularly Puati Ozias Kikomba putting in a big shift and getting his side over the line. They saw off Our Savior on Wednesday and finished the double on Friday against the Ndejje Angels.
KIU Titans were the other big winners but were almost caught lurking in the final game of the Game week against Our Savior. The Titans easily saw off the UCU Canons in game 1, getting a sweet revenge.
Arguably the most interesting game of the week, KIU Titans overcame the Our Savior scare in a 1 point game. Titans had a 10 point lead to close the first half but a resurgence in the third quarter saw Our Savior cut the lead to just 1. Joseph wacha scored a whopping 12 points in the quarter.
The grew even more tense leaving the fans on the edge of their seats, after Our savior took the lead in the fourth quarter. The game was tied 7 times in the fourth quarter alone, and the anxiety from players, fans and officials was through the roofs.
With 39 seconds left, Saidi Amisi gave the Titans a 2 point lead. Our savior got a chance to tie the game with 27 left but Moses Mugisha missed 1 of the 2 free throws eventually giving the Titans the victory making it 4 in a row.
Kampala Rockets saw off UPDF in game 1 on Saturday to get their first win in Round 1. Army side tried to work something out in the second quarter but the Rockets killed their spirits in the second half, walking away with the victory.
The Rockets had 4 players in double digits in Gideon Kasasa (14 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists), Kur Garanga (13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assitsts). Francis Kasinde (18 points, 5 rebounds) and Adut mayer (14 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist) making impact off the bench. UPDF’s Arthur Wanyoto recorded a double double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Nam Blazers continued their fine form making it 5 in a row with a victory over the JKL Dolphins. The Blazers had 5 players in double digits. Soro Geoffrey (17 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists) post another double double making it 3 in a row. Micheal Mikiadi also registered a a double double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 1 assist.
Arguably the best player on court was Chuma Fadhili who was contributing on both ends of the floor with 10 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals. The game also saw the return of Nam Blazers star Peter Cheng who had missed a couple of games.
The UCU Canons got yet another disappointment when the Ndejje Angels forced overtime and eventually got the victory completing the double against the NBL giants.
The City Oilers were in Full force as they easily saw off the KCCA Panthers despite a bit of resistance in the first quarter. The Oilers pulled away slowly and by the end of the third quarter, it was already a done deal.
Ivan Muhwezi led the scoring with 17 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist while Salim Kisilu of the Panthers closely followed with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Fayed Baale had 14 points and 4 rebounds while Ruai Luak who just returned from international duty scored 12 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
Best player of the week was Amisi Saidi who led his team KIU Titans to double victories. He scored 51 points, 22 rebounds and 5 assists.
