The Nkumba Lady Marines are on the verge of locking down the number one seed after a having a perfect game week with 3/3 wins.

The Lady Marines were tasked with big challenge to play 3 games in 4 day but they managed to comfortably win all of them and increase their hold on the top position.

On Wednesday 25th, they defeated Legends 80-44 and it was mainly down to their pressure defense which forced the Legends into 44 turnovers.

On Saturday they took on Amazon Rhinos, the only team that defeated them in round one, but they managed to get revenge after a 52-33 victory.

Once again, the defense was the key as they limited Amazon to just 13/45 attempts from the field.

Amazon had 32 turnovers compared to Nkumba’s 16 and the Lady Marines got 22 points from turnovers. Amazon did not have anyone score double-digits but Charlene Ursula picked 18 rebounds.

Privas Akenyi had 12 points, 3 rebounds, 6 steals and 3 blocks.

Ssegendo Mary Hazel was very effective and she was close to a triple-double with 10 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals.

In the final game of the game week, the Lady Marines managed to ease past Makerere Sparks with a 59-40 victory.

The Sparks’ put up some resistance in the first quarter but in the second, Nkumba limited Makerere to just 2 field goals and 5 points thus developing a 12-point lead.

They also rebounded the ball very well with 61 to 43. Every player for the Lady marines registered at least 1 rebound and all but 2 were on the score board.

Privas Akenyi put up a big double-double, 12 points, 16 rebounds, 2 assists, 8 steals and 1 block. Ssegendo Mary hazel had another efficient performance, 15 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.

The  Lady marines face the JT Junior Lady Jaguars in their next game on 5th October and with a win in that game, they will be seeking just one more win to seal the number one position.
