Victoria University got sweet revenge against Watoto after thumping them 88-32 on Wednesday 16th at YMCA.

In round one, Watoto caused one of the biggest upsets of the season after defeating ‘contenders’ Victoria University 67-56.

Ahead of the second game, the University side had a chip on the shoulders and they wanted to show their hand.

It was a very dominant start to the game as Victoria University went on a 26-1 run in the first 7 minutes of the game.

In that time, the Crocs made 11/18 Field Goals while Watoto had the same number of attempts as Turnovers (8).

Muganzi Daniel made the only Field Goal attempt for Watoto after shooting from distance with 2 minutes left to close the first period.

It was a better display from Watoto in the second quarter but they still couldn’t finish.

They scored just 2 Field Goals, and the other 7 points came from the free-throw line, and at halftime, Victoria led 44-15.

Victoria University’s firepower rekindled in the second half and they outscored Watoto 44-17 to get a 56-point victory.

Victoria University have kept their winning streak alive (8 wins) in round 2.

Coach’s remarks

Coach Rodgers Serunyigo was very happy with his team’s performance and he shared his thoughts at Full Time.

“It was a very relaxing game for me. I didn’t know  Watoto would play that bad but i feel my boys played a little better”

“The game got done when it was 44-15 for me at the end of the  half. I thought that Watoto couldn’t come back”

He also talked about the biggest problem for Watoto during the game;

“They didn’t rotate the ball as food as they usually do. Today was a big struggle for them and we took advantage of it”

He concluded by expressing what this victory means in terms of morale boost to his team.

“We lost to Watoto (in round one) and we won this game and it boosts the team by far. Second round has started well for us amd we want to continue with that winning streak”

They take on UMU Flames next on Saturday, the 19th, as their quest for the number one seed continues.

Watoto got their third defeat of the second round but they still have a big opportunity to secure a playoff spot.

They take on Gulu Hawks on Saturday 19th, at YMCA and Falcon’s on the 20th, at KIU Kansanga.
