JKL Lady Dolphins eliminated by REG: Women’s Basketball League Africa

JKL Lady Dolphins got eliminated by Rwanda’s REG after losing 67-52 in the quarter-finals. Becky Longom’s double-double and Evelyne Nakiyinji’s magic weren’t enough to carry the team forward.

2024 Uganda National Basketball League Champions JKL Lady Dolphins were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Women’s Basketball League Africa Qualifiers by Rwanda’s REG Women’s Basketball.

The Lady Dolphins finished second in their pool after winning 2 games and getting one defeat while REG topped their pool with a 3-0 record.

At the end of the first quarter, the Rwandese side was ahead, 17-9.

The offense from JKL wasn’t good in the first quarter as they scored just 9 points, 8 of those by Evelyne Nakiyinji.

On the other hand, REG scored all their baskets but one, from under the hoop.

They got a couple of second-chance points and scored in transition which helped them greatly.

It was an even second quarter and different benches hand an impact.

REG took led with as many as 10 points but the Lady Dolphins got 2 baskets in the final minute to make it a 6-point game into the halftime break.

Sharon Kirabo made her entrance, and in 5 minutes, she had 6 points, 3 offensive rebounds, and drew 2 fouls.

The Lady Dolphins started the third quarter brilliantly with an 8-2 run in the first 2 minutes but the game ran away from them shortly after that.

REG scored 10 points to 0 in the next 2:30 minutes and JKL had no way of stopping them.

They went on to score more 10 points while JKL scored just 2 in the remainder of the quarter and the deficit increased to 18 points with one quarter left.

It was always going to be a difficult ask for JKL to make a comeback and despite making moves here and there, the hole was too deep to come out of and REG secured the win 67:52.
