The KIU Rangers won their first game of the season, defeating the UPDF Lady Tomahawks 66-51 on Wednesday 2nd at Lugogo.

After defeat in their opener, the Rangers needed a victory, and facing a UPDF side that had been unbeaten wasn’t going to be an easy task.

The Rangers were not as pleasing in the first quarter, but they were in the game, and it was only a matter of time for them to steady their ship.

UPDF Lady Tomahawks led the game 17-14 but they should have had more bar the mistake they made that kept KIU close.

In the second quarter, tables turned!

In Runyankole, the phrase “mwazana busha” is often used after a bad performance and it’s exactly what UPDF did.

They scored just 6 points in the second quarter but had 0 in the final 5 minutes despite having numerous opportunities.

The Rangers led the game 25-23 at halftime and it was the first time they had taken the lead since the first 2 minutes of the game.

Once again, the offensive struggles by UPDF were visible as the game progressed.

They scored 8 points in the first 3 minutes but had just 4 in the final 6 and KIU took advantage of the situation.

Sharon went to work in the paint, scoring 8 points in the quarter and with help from other sources, KIU took an 11-point lead.

The Lady Tomahawks were chasing shadows in the fourth quarter.

Every time they seemed like they had built some momentum, KIU had a response.

Patricia Alado scored very crucial baskets, 8 points, and 4/5 FG in the fourth quarter.

Patience Karungi also added a different dimension to the KIU Rangers game; calming the game down.
