For the third consecutive season, the JKL Lady Dolphins and the JT Lady jaguars have met in the playoffs. The first 2 times, JKL eliminated JT; 3-1, in the semi-finals of the 2024 season and 4-1, in the 2025 season. This time around, the JT Lady jaguars finally won a series against the JKL Lady Dolphins and got their revenge.
Despite the sweep, it was not as sweet as it should have been due to a number of reasons. First and foremost, the players that eliminated JT were not the same and the quality of the current crop is low.
Secondly, JKL has been poor for most of the season and this was not seen as a contest but rather a series that the JT Lady Jaguars had to win easily and they did exactly that.
Coming into the series, the JT Lady Jaguars were the overwhelming favourites as they had finished as the number one seed and looked unstoppable. However, to the surprise of many, 6-woman JKL Lady Dolphins put up a fight.
Some people had anticipated the perennial winners, Ritah Imanishimwe, Brenda Ekone and Flavia Oketcho to feature but they never did. This meant that the Lady Dolphins were on their own and to make matters worse, their youngsters, Shiphrah Kiranda, Melissa Taliba and Josephine Aminat were all not available. Nonetheless, they had to play and put up a spirited fight in game one.
The JT Lady Jaguars won the game 59-45 but at the halftime break, they led by only 5 points which was a surprise for many. However, in the end, they were too powerful and won by 14 points.
Sarah Ageno had a spectacular performance as she registered 11 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists. The top scorer of the game though was JKL’s Tamasha Nsubuga who delivered 24 points.
Game Two
When the two teams faced off the following day for game two, the JT Lady Jaguars came out strong and led the game 21-6 after the first quarter. At this point, there was comeback for JKL and the Lady Jaguars won the game 68-44.
Sarah Ageno delivered another double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds although the top performer of the day was Mary Priscillar Nambogo who delivered a staggering 23 points with 5 3-point shots made.
Next possible opponents
The JT Lady Jaguars have advanced to the semi-finals and will face the winner between the Magic Stormers and the Pearl Queens. That series is currently tied 1-1 after Pearl Queens won game 2. If the Stormers advance, they will be facing Lady Jaguars in the semi-finals for the second successive season.
