Victoria University astounded Sommet with a 70-55 victory in dominant fashion as two of the FUBA Division One giants clashed on Wednesday 30th October.

Victoria who had had their 9 game winning streak stopped by Miracle Eagles came with one mission, to get back to winning ways.

In doing so, they completed the double against Sommet and also ended their 5-game winning streak.

It was a competitive first quarter but Victoria University led 23-18 after Akok Majok scored all the 3 free throw because he was fouled as he attempted to beat the buzzer from the half court.

Victoria ran away with the game in the second quarter, and dominated Sommet who had no response.

Sommet scored just 3 Field goals in the second quarter and a total of 9 points.

Victoria on the other hand scored 20 points including 3 3-point shots.

They also dominated the rebounds, 20-10 and including 10 offensive rebounds though they scored just 3 second chance points in that time.

At halftime, Victoria University led the game 43-27 and it was going to be a difficult ask for Sommet to dig themselves out of that hole.

For a period in the third quarter, Richard Mutawulu made 3 consecutive 3-point shots to reduce their deficit to 9 points, but Victoria steadied their ship and closed out the quarter with a 7-0 run to bring their difference back to 16 points.

It was too deep of a hole for Sommet to come out of in the fourth quarter and Victoria sealed the victory, 70-55.

Dominating the rebounds

Victoria University came up with a strategy for winning their battle and their starting lineup was up for the task.

Their 5 starters combined for 41 rebounds which was more than Sommet’s entire team.

The 25 offensive rebounds were huge and they resulted into 21 second-chance points while Sommet had just 9.

Victoria University has now won 10 of their 11 games in the second round and they return to action on Friday night against Rezlife Saints.

A victory in Friday’s game will push them close to potentially finishing number one or number 2.

Sommet registered their second loss of the second round and they now have a 19-5 record.

They take on Falcons on Saturday 2nd November at YMCA and Miracle Eagles on 3rd November at KIU Kansanga.
