The UCU Lady Canons advanced to the semi-finals after a 2-0 sweep against the KIU Rangers. In the past, this has always been a competitive fixture but the manner in which the Lady Canons battered the Rangers is a testament to the current state of the 2 teams.

Coming into the series, KIU were very big underdogs and a result other than a sweep would have been surprising. However, their performance was even worse than earlier anticipated as the Lady Canons defeated them 68-30 and 82-33 in games one and two respectively.

In game 2, UCU led the game 45-11 after the first half and this was a similar occurrence to what we saw in the second round of the regular season when they led 41-9 at some point in the game. The Rangers made 32 turnovers and the Lady Canons scored 40 points from turnovers. The score line could have been uglier but the Lady Canons’ missed a lot of open layups. In that same game, Zoe Atek registered a triple double with 19 points, 10 rebound and 10 assists.

In game one, UCU led 33-14 at halftime and clearly, there was no way back for the Rangers. The fact they did not have their star guard, Ines Kanyamuneza, made the situation worse for them.
