Kampala University Ladies Basketball team return to the NBL after sweeping JT Junior Ladies jaguars 3-0 in the semifinals. They will play in the 2027 NBL having spent 2 seasons Division One.
Ahead of this game, Kampala University had won the first 2 games. They needed one more but the Junior Lady Jaguars were also intent on keeping their season alive. As thus, both teams came in full force.
After the first period, Kampala University led the game 14-10. They extended their lead to 6 points as the game was 33-27 at the halftime break.
Hell broke loose for the Jaguars in the third quarter. They made a 9-2 run in the first 4 minutes of the quarter to take a 1-point lead. However, K.U completely took over the rest of the game. The Junior Jaguars scored just 2 more points in that quarter while Kampala University scored 17 to take a 14-point lead into the final period.
The Junior Jaguars still had some fight in them. With 5 minutes to lesft in the fourth quarter, they had cut the deficit to 6 points. However, Kampala University extinguished any hopes of a comeback as they made a quick 8-2 run to take it to a 12-point lead with 3 minutes left. They went on to win the game 65-52.
Top Performers
Victoria Nalwanga was the star performer as she dropped 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Rose Musundi registered 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assist and 3 steals. Gloria Ayaa scored 9 points plus 8 rebounds and 5 steals.
Maria Bikufa scored a team-high 16 points. She added 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Amy Chan Grace had 12 points and 8 rebounds.
What next?
With their trio to the finals, Kampala University has made a return to the NBL. They will face the winners between Seeta High and Makerere Sparks. That series is currently 2-1 with Seeta in the lead.
The JT Junior Lady Jaguars made history as they qualified for their first ever semifinal. Despite defeat, there is a lot of pride that the girls should be having. They will face the loser between Makerere and Seeta in the third place playoff.
