Martina Anyango was the star performer as the UCU Lady Canons took a commanding 2-0 lead in the NBL semifinals after securing a hard-fought 63-56 victory over the KCCA Leopards. The game which was played on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the Lugogo Indoor Arena, saw Anyango drop a playoff high 28 points to secure the victory for the University side.

In game one, the Lady Canons secured a 79-71 but their fourth quarter performance was lacking. having won that final period 21-13, the KCCA Leopards came into game 2 with confidence.

Match Breakdown

Unlike the fast-paced offense of the series opener, Game Two was defined by physical perimeter defending and tightly contested interior battles.

In the first quarter, UCU was heavily reliant on the 3 ball. They scored 5 3-point shots and a total of 19 points. The Leopards also buried a pair of triples and a couple of free throws. At the end of the quarter, the Lady Canons led 19-14.

The second quarter was untidy as both teams struggled to get their offenses fired up. UCU scored just 4 field goals and missed 9 free throws. The Leopards scored just 1 field goal in the final 5 minutes of the half and at the halftime break, they trailed 27-33.

To start the second half, the KCCA leopards came out hot. they made scored 8 unanswered points to take a 2-point lead but recovered and also made a 5-0 run to retake the lead. At the end of the quarter, UCU led 45-42 and this set the stage for an entertaining fourth quarter.

The final period was the Martina Anyango show. KCCA kept hanging around but she singlehandedly buried them. Anyango scored back to back triples early in the quarter and went on to score 14 points in the quarter.

Despite Anyango’s heroics, the Leopards did not do themselves justice. They missed 13 of 18 free throws including 8 consecutive misses. This put them in a terrible situation as they were chasing the game but just couldn’t catch up.

Top Performers

Martina Anyango had perhaps the best game of her career as she registered 28 points and 16 rebounds double-double. She made all of her 6 attempts from the 3-point line.

Sylvia Nantongo followed up her stellar 20-point performance in Game One by registering a double-double of 11 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists.

Uwineza Ninette led the Leopards in scoring, rebounding and assists with 12, 7 and 5 but she missed 9 of her 12 attempted free throws.

Possible Postseason Sweep

By moving to 2-0 in the best-of-five series, the UCU Lady Canons have pushed the KCCA Leopards to the edge of postseason elimination. KCCA faces a strict must-win scenario in Game Three to save their season.

The teams will meet for game 3 on Wednesday 29th at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.
