Newly appointed City Oilers coach Andrew Tendo has momentarily silenced critics, who were saying that Oilers will struggle this season, after his team up put a dominant performance in their season opener against D-Mark Power.

City Oilers and Power are the only two sides to have won the National Basketball League that are currently plying in the competition this season.

This was one of the highly anticipated game as many had doubts, whether the Oilers would be lethal, just like last season and given Powers addition of some new players, the stage was stage for a tough match up.

The game started off slow, both teams executing their plays but it was the City Oilers who took a 4 point lead after Fayed Baale hit a deep 3 point shot before the buzzer sounded.

Powere went into an anticipated slumber, scoring just 4 points in the second quarter giving City Oilers a 17 point game into the break.

The situation for Power wasn’t getting any better and to make things worse, Philip Ameny was ejected after being called for an unsportsmanlike foul to which he reacted bu staying stay in the umpires face, who later charged him with a technical foul and he was ejected.

Ameny had been on of the better players for Power at the time with 8 points, 5 rebounds and a game high 7 assists, and so his absence meant Power’s struggles on the offensive end were going to turn to another level.

The Oilers were in overdrive for the fourth quarter, shooting for fun where as Power was completely sound asleep, in fact, they must have been snoring, as they scored just 6 points in the final period and being blown away with a 35 point difference.

Talking points

During the half time team talk for the City Oilers, for a moment Coach Andre Tendo was seen away from the team and team owner, Hajji Santur was seen actively trying to put some points across for the boys.

Whatever message he put across, we shall never know but given that Power had been so poor offensively in the second quarter yet the Oilers lead was just 17, one could guess that message must have been about playing harder and killing off the game.

Allawi Senkubuge scored his firs points of the game with the last Field Goal of the game Oilers faithful and his teammates were very happy, applauding him after the shot.

Power was so poor in that the number of turnovers (36) they had was 2 shy of their total number of points (38).

For the first time this season, a team failed to register second chance points. Power only managed 6 offensive rebounds and its no wonder that they failed to register any second chance points.

Almost the entire KIU Titans roster was present watching this game and most observers say that they must have been scouting and getting a few ideas on how to defeat the 9 time champions.

The KIU Titans and City Oilers have some of the most exciting and sensational players who bring a lot of flair and sauce to game. The 2 teams shall be going head to head on 16th this month.

Coach Player Ben Komakech was seen on the floor but he was unable to put up points on the board.
