The 2024 FUBA Division One Champions, Our Savior Banyabo will not compete in the 2025 NBL after having been promoted.
Banyabo competed in Div 1 in the 2023 and 2024 seasons, ultimately becoming champions and earning qualification.
However, it has come to our attention that the team will not be able to participate for a reason that is yet to be disclosed but could be a around the area of finances.
The Men’s team, Our Savior, was put up for sale in late 2024, and it is yet to be confirmed if they have a buyer. If not, how will the FUBA and the NBL Committee handle the situation in case Our Savior doesn’t participate?
Our Savior, the Men’s team was mainly funded from pocket by Kelly Martin and John Paul Komakech and during one of our spaces, Komakech told us that they had problems with finances and that’s the reason why they put the club up for sale.
For the women, the Banyabo was funded out of pocket by Halima Mukisa, wife to Kelly and one would assume that the same problems that affected the men reached the women.

As a matter of fact, during the playoffs, Banyabo were having their training days at Makerere, and they’d use a half-court while the Sparks used the other.
As a result, Angels, who finished 3rd, will replace Our Savior as the team to play in the NBL, while for the Men, we are still unsure how things will proceed.
The players in Banyabo were advised to look for other teams and some have already found new homes.
For the coaches, they also have to find other opportunities.
The NBL will tip-off on 21st March.
