4 wins in 16 games, that’s the record that Power have this season. They have the second fewest wins this season (4) tied with Kampala Rockets, JKL Dolphins and Livingstone. They are yet to win game in the second round having lost all their 5 games so far and clearly, their is “NO POWER” in their camp, even generators can’t seem to work.

Trouble is brewing for the five-time champions as relegation is closer to them that earlier anticipated and the diehard fans are wondering, what could be the problem?

Power finished the first round with 4 wins and the 8th best offense in the league with an average of 62.8 points per game and they conceded 69.5 points per game, the making them the 5th best defense in the league.

At the time, people had a lot of optimism for Power given that they were a very thin squad with just 8 players and somehow, they managed to pick big results, even against the Namuwongo Blazers, they picked up a victory.

Things turned in the second Round, they added Taariq Julaam Powell, Clinton Omondi, Kevin Ogunjimi and most recently Soro Geoffrey. The signings are supposed to make them a better squad but from the results so far, the situation has gotten worse.

Power’s offense has increased slightly from 62.8 points to 64.2 points per game, but the defense has plummeted significantly. They have conceded 78.8 points per game including 92 against the UCU Canons.

Context

During the first round, Power used mostly transition offense. Isaac Afidra and Philip Ameny would make a full court pass to find runners, Elvis Mutebi, Elvis Ssentongo and Lemaniku Reagan (when he was on the floor). Samad Imran was their leading rebounder and scorer and whenever they wanted a bucket, they created for him and he got something for them. Each player had their roles and most of them executed relatively well.

With the arrival of new signings, a lot has had to change, more so the playing style and given the kind of competition in the second round, there is no margin for error. Power seemed to have veered away from the quick transition basketball and have now settled for half-court plays with Kevin Ogunjimi running the offense. Offensively, they have slightly improved but the defensive set up is still a headache for the coach.

Power is in a situation where they must quickly adjust the way they play more-so defensively or try to use the same tactics they used in round one. The clock is ticking for them and if not steady, they might find themselves in Division one.

The Kampala Rockets seem to have clicked instantly with their new signings, the JKL Dolphins despite struggling got a victory against them, Livingstone who is also in hot water is desperate and Ndejje Angels are also yearning for a victory.

The situation is dire for all the above teams and things will go down to the wire. The current form of Power suggests that they could be facing the sword but who knows, they could pick up a couple of victories in their remaining 6 games. They face 3 of the top 5 teams in the league and getting wins against those teams could come in handy.
