The Kampala Hockey Club (KHC) Swans recently extended their hearts to the Children’s Union Rehabilitation Centre, a home for differently-abled children in and around Makindye.

In a tweet shared on their official X account, the Swans expressed their admiration for the resilience and spirit of the children and their caregivers, noting that their determination amidst challenging circumstances left a lasting impression on the team.

The Swans, who clinched the league title in 2023, are on course to represent Uganda at the Africa Cup for Club Championships in Egypt later this month.

Originally scheduled for 2024, the tournament was postponed to early 2025 due to delays in confirming the host nation and venue amongst other reasons.

This prestigious event follows a historic moment for Ugandan field hockey, when the KHC Stallions, the Swans’ counterparts, competed in Malawi in 2023. The Stallions made history by becoming the first Ugandan field hockey club to win an international award, securing a bronze medal in the same tournament.

In preparation for their journey, the Swans have launched  fundraising campaigns to cover the financial costs of competing in Egypt.

Amongst their initiatives include the sale of KHC-branded merchandise, which features a variety of items such as jumpers, polo shirts, notebooks, pens, thermoses, and caps. All proceeds from the sales will go toward supporting their participation in the Africa Cup.

As the Swans continue their quest to compete among Africa’s hockey giants, their visit to the Children’s Union Rehabilitation Centre underscores their commitment not just to sports excellence but also to making a meaningful impact in the community.
